Junior TEMA Education Program is designed to enable primary school children to spend more time in nature, make observations, explore nature with a sense of curiosity and strengthen their ecological literacy skills. Junior TEMA Education Program, the first field implementations of which started in 1996, was developed in 2014 and is carried out by volunteer teachers in cooperation with the Ministry of National Education. In 2018, the content and materials of Junior TEMA Education Program were completely renewed and the program was divided into two parts, one for 1st-2nd graders and one for 3rd-4th graders. Junior TEMA Training Program was implemented for three academic years between 2019-2022, with the support of Türkiye İş Bankası.
The program, whose main objective is to raise children's awareness on ecological literacy, is implemented in 81 provinces of Turkey. The program, which offers teachers a total of 94 activity suggestions, including 84 face-to-face and 10 online activities to be implemented outdoors and in the classroom, supports children to connect with nature.
Thanks to the educational materials prepared in a wide range of subjects such as soil, water assets, biodiversity, ecosystem, weather, observation in nature, sustainable life, and the activity instructions under each subject heading, teachers can easily implement the activities prepared in accordance with their annual education programs in their classrooms or outdoors. In addition, a portal covering Junior TEMA Education Program has been launched for teachers to easily access all educational content. (minik-yavrutema.org)
Junior TEMA Education Program has reached approximately 18,500 classrooms/teachers and 458,000 children in 81 provinces of Turkey.
