April 2021 - June 2022
As TEMA Foundation, within the scope of combating the impacts of climate change on the agriculture sector, we came together with 15 non-governmental organisations working in the field of agriculture in Turkey and launched the "Climate Network for Agriculture Project".
Started on 1 April 2021, the main objective of our project is to create a civil society network with NGOs working in the field of agriculture in Turkey and to develop policy recommendations to be presented to decision makers through meetings where members of this network come together. In addition, another objective is to improve the capacities of the representatives of the network member organisations and to ensure that they take an active role in policy-making processes on climate change impacts in the agricultural sector.
Within the scope of the project; preliminary & deep sector analysis reports were prepared under the leadership of academicians who are experts in their fields. In the light of these researches, a "Policy Recommendation Document" on climate change policies in the agricultural sector will be prepared with the contributions of network members. At the same time, the project opening conference held in Ankara, the 1st Round Table Meeting and the 2nd Round Table Meeting held online are among the events we organised with our network participants within the scope of our project. In the light of all these outputs, advocacy and lobbying activities are planned in order to share the policy recommendation document to be prepared with the relevant public institutions. A communication campaign will also be carried out within the scope of the project.
Our project started on 23 September 2021 with the opening speeches of TEMA Foundation Chairman Deniz Ataç and Director General for Financial Cooperation and Project Implementation Bülent Özcan. The event continued with the presentations of Prof. Dr. Murat Türkeş on the Main Messages of the IPCC Report and the Effects of Climate Change on Agricultural Crop Production, Prof. Dr. Erhan Akça on Climate Change and Agricultural Policies / Preliminary Analysis of the Sector and introductory speeches of the network participants and was followed with interest by all our stakeholders.
The 1st Round Table Meeting of our project was held in Ankara on 25-26 November 2021. Following the presentation of our consultant Prof. Dr. Erhan Akça on Climate Change and Agricultural Policies, our workshop continued with round table studies and was completed with group presentations and consultation sessions.
On 11 February 2022, we held our 2nd Round Table Meeting online. After the meeting where our Policy Recommendation Document was evaluated by the network participants, we finalised our document under the guidance of our consultants.
