TEMA Foundation's reason for existence is to protect and preserve life, that is, the soil. Because soil is the home of all of us, the direct or indirect source of 95% of our food, and the source of resilience of our habitats. As the largest carbon sink after the oceans, soil is also an important actor in the fight against the climate crisis. If we have soil, we have forests, agriculture, pastures and animal husbandry. While it takes 500 years for 1 centimeter of soil to form, 642 million tons of soil is eroded every year. The reason for the existence of TEMA Foundation, which aims to protect life and therefore the soil, is to protect the soil.
To be a voluntary, conscious, pioneering, international and reputable Non-Governmental Organization that works science-based for the protection of all natural assets, especially our soils, with the principle of sustainable life, believes in social peace coming from the soil, integrates with the people, has a say in the future of the country and the world.
The primary goal of the Foundation is to explain to our nation, its representatives, political parties and governments, public and private organizations, educational institutions, media organs; the causes and grave consequences of soil erosion and the danger of our country becoming a desert. In this sense, it aims to create a sensitive, conscious and effective public opinion against environmental problems, especially erosion. In line with this goal, TEMA Foundation continues its activities to convince political forces that they cannot come to power without finding a solution to the problem of erosion and destruction of natural assets. TEMA Foundation is aware that one of the most valuable treasures of our country is soil. Therefore, it believes that a state policy that protects forests, meadows, pastures and agricultural areas, water and plant genetic resources, as well as taking concrete steps to combat erosion and the climate crisis, is necessary and imperative. Achieving these goals is only possible with a technically adequate staff, organization and financial means.
